Summer Holloway

Oak Grove High School Congratulates Summer Holloway on a perfect ACT score.

It was a perfect day for perfection! Oak Grove, Louisiana February 21, 2018:

Today Oak Grove High School celebrates the achievements of their very own Summer Holloway, the daughter of Eric and Vicki Holloway. Mr. and Mrs. Holloway received notification of their daughter’s score of a 36 on the ACT. When we compare Summer’s ACT score to Louisiana’s average ACT score she is 18.5 points above the norm.

The ACT is a curriculum-based education and career planning tool used for college admission in the United States. In 2017, only 0.136% of students that took the ACT made a 36. Summer Holloway was only in the 7th grade when she first took the ACT. Even at such a young age, she scored a 27. Summer went on to take the ACT three or four more times throughout her high school career. Summer said that taking the ACT more times definitely made it easier to make a higher score. Not only did taking it more times help, but the discipline and determination she acquired from ballet played a huge role.

Oak Grove High School holds an ACT boot-camp which Summer participated in during her junior year. Before the boot-camp Summer’s last score was a 32, after the boot-camp she scored a 34. Summer stated the tips and skills learned in this one day of preparation were very useful.

The only other preparation that Summer noted was her love of reading which she claimed was the biggest contribution to her high score. Her desire to read began before she ever attended school. She was not enrolled in Pre-K when she was young, instead her mother encouraged her and taught her how to read at this young age. Even throughout elementary and junior high, Summer stayed active in the summer reading programs. She loved the challenge of earning the most AR points during the school year. During Summer’s elementary and high school years, she has participated in many school related activities such as being a part of BETA club, FBLA, and she was even voted class officer three years in a row.

Her greatest love is ballet. Summer is active in the Missy Crain Performing Company and also the Louisiana Delta Ballet Company. Summer was selected to attend the prestigious Joffrey Ballet summer workshops. Ballet opened doors encouraging dedication and determination for excellence.

We wish Summer well for those days beyond her May 17 th graduation date. Plans right now for Summer include pursuing a degree in the medical field from Tulane University. Oak Grove High School honors her for this achievement.
